Clear water flows through a private little valley  on a parcel of  land that is soothing and restorative.   Tucked in a secluded spot, Crystal Creek Cottage gently graces a knoll above a wide meander in the creek with delightful views up and down the grassy vale.   Just upstream from the home, where the creek passes through a narrow spot, there is a good site for a large pond ringed by lush grasses and old walnut trees. The property is 26 +/- acres and is currently in the land use program.

From the valley floor, the land rises through a pine forest to the top of the ridge.  From this vantage there are panoramic northwest views of the Blue Ridge rippling to the horizon.  Although the land is mostly forested, there is enough open land for a good-sized garden, brambles and berries and a few fruit trees.

The home began its long history as a traditional Virginia farmhouse built in the mid-1800’s, most likely as a tenant house for Jessamine Hill, a large old farm a mile or so to the south.  From this simple beginning, the home has been added to and altered through the years.  The current owners have thoughtfully brought some sensible design to the quirky old home.  Now it is eminently livable but still retains its historical ambience and interesting individuality. Square footage of the home is approximately 2,000 square feet not including decks and porches.

The kitchen is the metaphorical and actual center of the home.  It is conveniently organized and well lit with enough counter space for the most energetic cooks.  It opens to the dining area that has room for a good-sized table or a smaller table and some seating.  Off the dining area is the laundry room, full bath and access to the tower suite.  It is a small bedroom above the laundry and bath with great views up the secluded valley.  Across the dining area is the living room that features a gas fireplace and access to a large rear deck that overlooks the stream and hidden valley.  Through the living room is the front bedroom, a cheerful room splashed with natural light thanks to the generous windows and skylight.

Upstairs is the studio and master suite.  The studio is an open space with north light, built in shelving and rich walnut floors.  If you’re not an artist, it would make a fine office.  Just off the studio, the master suite is a large eclectic space with a bedroom adjoining a sitting room via an arched opening and a loft area above the sitting room.  The sitting room opens to a high balcony with a long view through the treetops up the valley.   An en suite bathroom and spacious closets complete the suite.

This is a fine country property to enjoy the privacy, intimate beauty and delights of nature that make Rappahannock County so special.
